Reconstruccion, 2019

“The objective of this mural was to honour a presence… of a womxn like me or you, who has been broken down and left to pick up the pieces. Left to reconstruct themselves, physically and mentally, to recreate their identity. Also but no less significantly, to honour the womxn who have physically left us. The visual respecting of a body, a presence, a womxn… a person, who is deserving of time and space, attention and opportunity – to be empowered and live without fear…”

This site-specific urban intervention lives at a women’s shelter in Argentina. It was created during Anastasia Pindera’s placement at the Artistic Residence of Training and Production in Urban Mosaics in tandem with a social-based art workshop. The workshop supported each survivor with the help of their children to create a personalized mosaic fragment that expressed a part of their healing experience. Each fragment tells a story, a story vital to the completion of this collaborative mural project.
